#WeAreVTS: TenEx Advisor Meg Allas on Collaboration, Creativity, and Curiosity

The VTS team consists of folks with a diverse set of personalities, talents, and perspectives, and we want you to meet them! That’s why we’ve created this #WeAreVTS blog series to highlight some of the many outstanding people we have at VTS, get a closer look at the dynamic lives they have, and continue to create an environment where each VTSer can be their authentic self.

Without further ado, here’s our interview with Meg Allas, TenEx Advisor!

In a sentence or two, can you explain what you do here at VTS?

Hey Louisa! As a TenEx Advisor, I work with some of our largest commercial clients to enable their teams on out TenEx (Tenant Experience) solution, VTS Activate, to engage their tenant population using technology.

Where are you based right now?

New York, on the Upper West Side!

Can you describe your professional journey and how it led you to VTS?

I started my career in hospitality, working in luxury hotel sales and events in New York City. Due to the nature of my roles, I had a chance to meet people from so many different industries. I also worked with many different operations teams onsite which gave me a unique view into different industries.

I found myself wanting to get into technology more and more, since the hospitality industry can be infamous for lagging in technological innovation. This led me to my work with Expedia, collaborating with portfolios of hotels in New York City helping them identify solutions that Expedia had available to help promote their properties and drive revenue.

My combined experience working in hotels with operations teams and my experience with tech solutions has led me to my current role.

What excites you about what you do at VTS? Is there a moment in your time here that made you especially proud to work at VTS?

What excites me about VTS is that there is always something new to work on, and things are constantly changing since every client is different. Because of this, my role is never boring! I have the chance to be really creative to stay on top of changes within the industry to provide the right solutions for our clients.

A moment that made me especially proud was when one of my clients won an award at the VTS Accelerate conference related to tenant activation. The Tenant Activation Award recognizes a VTS client leading the way in tenant and workplace experience, with an emphasis on how they have used all innovations available to them to build a phenomenal brand, culture, and tenant experience across their portfolio. I was proud to have had a hand in helping them get to this point!

On to more personal topics – what was your dream job growing up?

For a while I wanted to be a Veterinarian! Eventually, I realized that this entailed more than just dealing with puppies and that I did not enjoy dealing with all types of animals as much as I thought I did.

If you could wave a magic wand to solve any problem in the world, what would it be?

The first thing that came to my mind was climate change. Sustainability is such a focal point for our industry, and feel like it is a major topic for the coming years. I also feel like many conflicts in the world would be improved or not exist if there were enough resources for everyone.

What’s your advice for someone who wants to be in a role similar to yours?

My advice is to be a sponge and learn from your colleagues. Being a part of a great team is something important to me, and I feel like at VTS there are so many people with varied backgrounds and experiences to learn from.

Also, as hard as it is today with so many methods of communication and information coming our way, it’s important to try your best to stay on top of things like product and feature updates. From there, you can communicate those updates to your clients so that they can get the most out of the product you are supporting them with.

Lastly, it’s important to be curious about your clients and why they’re looking for certain functions. That curiosity will allow you to connect them to the right solutions or features and help them be the most successful they can be with the product.
