Ohio University Welcomes its New Students with Activities

It’s an exciting moment in your year: either you’re just starting freshman year at a university and are eager for all the new experiences college has to offer, or you’re returning for another year to your cute, spacious apartment across from Ohio University and can’t wait to see all your friends and start another year of classes. Welcome to Welcome Week.

Whether you’re planning on joining in on the festivities taking place on campus, or you’re opting for a more low-key celebration with friends with dinner, drinks, and hangouts, gearing up for the first day of class, Welcome Week has lots in store. Here are the best ways to rock Welcome Week at OU.

Moving Into Your New Home

Welcome Week naturally coincides with student move-in. If this is your second or third go-round, congrats—you’re a seasoned veteran. If this is your first move-in on campus, make sure you’ve got all of your information on-hand, including your scheduled move-in time, your residence hall assignment, and this handy list provided by Ohio University on how to make move-in as seamless as possible. Even with move-in times being staggered to allow for the least amount of chaos possible, keep in mind that things will be hectic around the residence halls on campus. Be kind to others—they’re likely just as tired of moving in as you might be.

Take Part in Events on Campus

Ohio University goes to great lengths to make Welcome Week an event to look forward to every year on campus. If you’re just starting out your college career at OU, make a point to stop by—it’s a great way to make friends. You’ll find plenty of fun things to take part in, like inflatable obstacle courses, mini sports games like frisbee, movies on the green in the evenings, and even grandiose firework displays all in an effort to welcome students back for another year.

The booths set up around campus are also a great way to acquaint yourself with the student resources that the university offers, and the attendants will be more than happy to answer any questions you have about the upcoming year.

Meet Up with Friends

Maybe you’re in your third or fourth year of college, and you’ve done Welcome Week and want something different. You can still celebrate the start of another great year, just in different ways. Get together with the friends you’ve made at school who you didn’t get to see over the summer, catch up over dinner at your favorite local restaurant, and help each other prep for the upcoming semester.

Get Ready for Classes

No matter if you’re a returning student or totally new to Ohio University, you’ll want to make sure you’re ready to tackle the first week of classes head-on. Look over your class schedule, remember what time your new classes start, look up the buildings they’re in, and make sure you’ve got all the supplies you’ll need to get a head start. We say there’s no such thing as being too overprepared for your classes, but that might come from the ever-common recurring dreams of college class schedule mishaps that occur post-graduation.Welcome Week kicks off on campus from August 22nd to September 1st, and is sure to show both new and returning Bobcats a hearty welcome before classes start for the semester.
