The Hilton Milwaukee, the city’s largest hotel, has announced an extensive renovation project, expected to be completed by the summer of 2025. The project, which will cost over $40 million, represents the most extensive renovation in the history of Marcus Hotels & Resorts.

According to Michael Evans, the president of Marcus Hotels & Resorts, the renovation will include a complete transformation of guest rooms, the hotel’s lobby, and its 34,000 square feet of meeting and event spaces. The aim of this remodel is to upgrade the hotel’s aesthetic while honoring its longstanding history.

The hotel, formerly Hilton Milwaukee City Center, has been officially renamed “Hilton Milwaukee” to align with the upcoming transformation.

The guest rooms will be revamped, blending the hotel’s 1920s aesthetics with modern style. The redesign will feature new furnishings and lighting, fresh carpet and draperies, remodeled bathrooms with marble countertops and fixtures from Wisconsin-based Kohler Co., and updated heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. The rooms will also have modern amenities like motion sensor lighting and Nespresso machines.

The hotel’s meeting and event spaces and three ballrooms will also undergo extensive renovations. Historical elements such as original chandeliers and gold-leafed adornments will be refurbished while the functional capabilities are modernized with new sound systems, lighting controls, and digital signage.

The renovation will cover all 554 guest rooms in the historic hotel’s original footprint. However, due to current market conditions and projected room supply and demand, the remaining 175 rooms in the west tower will not be renovated.

Built-in 1928 as the Schroeder Hotel, the Hilton Milwaukee is renowned for its art deco design. The hotel is directly connected to the Baird Convention Center and offers the most meeting and event space of any hotel in the city.
