About Maggie Gould & Nanny Assis

The LA Times described Maggie Gould as “made for bossa nova.” With sold-out shows at Jazz Forum in New York, she captivates audiences through storytelling and enchanting performances.

Her impressive career includes performances with the Orpheus Choir alongside the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and lead roles in musicals such as Cats and Follies Bergère. Maggie recently released her album Todo Amor at The Blue Note, featuring works by Jobim, Bernstein, Stevie Wonder, Chet Baker, and jazz standards. Backed by Nanny Assis as musical director, her jazz band’s rhythmic Brazilian beats bring audiences to their feet, dancing into the night.

Maggie’s upcoming album, due to be released early next year, features celebrated artists such as nine-time Grammy winner Victor Wooten on bass and Russell Malone on guitar, produced by Nanny Assis. Maggie has also been recording and performing with Grammy-winning vocalist Claude McKnight of Take 6, working on new material. Her recent tour spanned LA’s Catalina Jazz Club to New York, where she collaborated with Russell Malone, John Di Martino, and Leo Lucini, with Nanny Assis on percussion.

Nanny Assis, a Brazilian master of bossa nova and Afro-Brazilian sounds, is a gifted vocalist, instrumentalist, and songwriter based in New York. Winner of the Best Male Vocalist award at the Brazilian Press Music Awards and a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in Brazilian Jazz, Nanny has performed internationally with legends like Paul Simon, Kenny Barron, and John Patitucci.

Known for his vibrant performances, Nanny’s music stirs deep emotions, often inspiring audiences to dance with infectious energy. His album Double Rainbow, featuring Ron Carter on bass, showcases his mastery of Brazilian jazz and is celebrated worldwide.

Together, Nanny and Maggie have collaborated in New York, blending their talents into mesmerising performances. Maggie’s inspiration from icons like Ella Fitzgerald, Astrud Gilberto, and Chet Baker shapes her sultry, spacious vocal style. Her global performances include festivals in Tauranga, Samoa, Monterey, Rome, Venice, and prestigious venues in London, Los Angeles, and New York.
